Ava Therien scored 20 points to lead top-seeded and No. 8 in the NJ.com Top 20 Cherokee to a 48-25 win over Jackson Memorial in the semifinals of the South Jersey, Group 4 tournament in Marlton.
Cherokee, who is now on an 11 game winning streak, will host third-seeded Toms River North in the sectional final on Tuesday. The Chiefs will be making their third straight sectional final appearance.
Cherokee took control of the game early, jumping out to a 16-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Chiefs’ defense clamped down on Jackson Memorial in the second half, allowing only seven points in two quarters.
Alexa Therien added on 16 points to the win.
Bianca Giordano scored 10 points for Jackson Memorial.
Cherokee defeated Toms River North 37-35 in last year’s sectional final, thanks to a buzzer beater from graduate Isabella Therien.
